The 7D is just like the 20D only better. There was very little wrong with the 20D (small LCD screen, lack of spot meter, auto ISO), the 7D addresses them all.
The AF is very fast. With the 20D I tended to use only the center AF point, with the 7D they are all the more accurate cross-type, and it is convenient to use a lower one so that I can focus at the feet of soccer players without needing to re-compose.
The 7D has even more buttons which one can program to do whatever you like. I find the dedicated AF button not quite in the right place so continue to reprogram the EL button to do AF as well. The dedicated button to pull up the Quick config panel is very handy especially when the camera is on a tripod.
Low light performance is great, ISO 6400 is quite usable.
The pop-up flash is much more useful too. It can be used like a manual flash down to 1/128, and as a master for an external Canon flash which can also be controlled via the camera menu.
